Valley Ridge District Lay Leaders
Larry Creamer is the Staunton District Lay Leader. He was raised in Charles Town, WV, and attended public schools in Jefferson County, WV. After graduating from High School he joined the United States Navy and he is a Vietnam Veteran. He attended Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV. He was a charter member of The Lexington Sunrise Rotary Club. He is a member of Greenville UMC, where he serves on the Staff Parish Relations Committee. He is Treasurer, Staunton District United Methodist Men and a Certified Lay Speaker. He is retired from the United States Postal Service after 39 years, and his last assignment with the Postal Service was Postmaster of Lexington, VA. Susan Obaugh is the Associate Lay Leader of the Staunton District. She has held this position for over fifteen years. Susan is a retired Librarian after spending forty years in the high school library. She was raised a United Methodist and have served many offices in the local church. One of her passions is missions and she has traveled to Russia and Guatemala. She enjoys time with her two adult grandsons and a great-grandson. IShe enjoys working with kids of all ages and spend a lot of my time with her twelve year old great-grandson, Ryan.She loves to read and like to play in the dirt outside. Shirley Brown is an Associate Lay Leader for the Roanoke District. She retired from the Federal Government after 31 years and relocated to Christiansburg, VA to be near her daughter and her family. Shirley has a BA and works occasionally as a substitute teacher. She is a member of Asbury UMC in Christiansburg, is a Lay Servant, sings in the choir, attends the Senior Bible Study Group, and has served as a Trustee. Shirley is on the UMW leadership team at St. Paul UMC in Christiansburg and serves on the Roanoke District UMW team as Membership, Nurture & Outreach. She is a member of the Emmaus community, involved in Kairos Outside ministries, and enjoys gardening and traveling. Denise Pappas is an Associate Lay Leader for the Roanoke District. Denise is an active member of St. Mark's UMC in Daleville where she serves on the Welcome Committee, Visitation committee, and as a Greeter. She is a Certified Lay Servant/Leader in the UMC. She has led a variety of committees, started and led a variety of women's Bible studies (including Women & Their Image at the Roanoke Rescue Mission), worked with the youth on mission trips, and has served on an International Mission to Costa Rica through the Rice and Beans Ministry.
